Popular political attitudes in Samoa: Findings of the Pacific Attitudes Survey

Abstract Popular political attitudes surveys have been conducted globally for several decades, but the Pacific region remains an exception. This paper presents findings of first Attitudes Survey (PAS), in Samoa from December 2020‐January 2021. Drawing on a nationally representative sample Samoans voting‐age (n = 1319) PAS gauges ordinary to their democracy, levels popular trust institutions, towards role government, and women's participation politics. Findings reveal high support democracy democratic institutions. At same time, highlight distinct model Samoan which respect modern norms is tempered entwined with deeper traditions community identity.
